Depression

Dread. Helplessness. Hopelessness.

Is that how you wake up and begin your day? If you do, it’s no wonder that you feel like staying beneath the covers.

Staying in bed… seems like the perfect place to escape feeling like a failure – like you’re “not good enough.”

But you try your best to get through the day. And that’s never easy when you have no energy or motivation for anything.

You’ve probably asked yourself…

How did I get here?

When did things get so bad?

The overwhelming sadness is paralyzing, especially when you feel like you have no one to turn to and nowhere to go.

There’s a difference between being sad and depressed.

Feeling sad is a healthy, normal response to difficult life situations, and that sadness needs to be expressed if we are to heal our emotional wounds.

But when sadness begins to take over our lives, it leads to depression. Depression is a medical diagnosis. It’s real… and it’s dangerous… maybe even life-threatening. It needs to be taken seriously.

Have you had changes in your sleep or appetite?

Are you having trouble concentrating?

Are you tired all the time?

Have you lost all motivation, even to the point that you no longer care about things you once enjoyed?

Are you plagued by feelings of worthlessness and guilt?

All these things are characteristic of depression, and if you have it, it’s hard to get through the day.

There is hope and opportunity for change.

Together, we can work through your depression and achieve the best possible life for you.

Reclaiming your strength…

We will immediately develop strategies of self-acceptance, self-compassion, and self-love. We will tap into your value and strengths and use empowerment and encouragement as a way to defeat self-criticism, people-pleasing, procrastination, all-or-nothing thinking, feelings of anger, guilt, and shame. You will stop focusing on everyone’s happiness at your own cost and rebuild your power.

Rebuilding your confidence…

In developing a supportive, empathic, nonjudgmental, and safe environment, we will build and thrive on your strengths. We will develop strategies that promote more positive feelings while challenging negative beliefs and language. While developing optimism and reality-based messages, you will increase your self-confidence in coping with irrational doubts and non-deserving feelings of guilt and shame. You will be speaking the language of positive self-statements and affirmations and nurturing strength and hope.

Resetting your mindset…

We will develop an awareness of cognitive messages that reinforce hopelessness and helplessness, confront and reframe self-despairing comments, and identify distorted negative beliefs about the self and the world. We will challenge distortions, find evidence that contradicts these beliefs, and replace them with new behaviors that will change your mood – no more negative views of not being lovable, worthy or damaged.

Readressing the trauma…

We will find the origin and triggers of your depression, where they began, and what meaning it holds for you to hold onto it. Instead of walking around the uncomfortable pain and emotions, we will walk through it. Processing the pain will lead to diminished symptoms that will provide relief. Most importantly, you will find positive coping skills and support systems to foster your emotional growth.

Restoring your relationships…

Creating new positive and fulfilling relationships will open your world to new opportunities and limitless possibilities. Through cultivating awareness and emotional regulation with others, you will enhance your emotional ability to be present for a healing relationship that needs to be nurtured and cared for while creating new and exciting bonds. Through mindfulness training, you will show up for life, one moment, one breath at a time. The possibilities are endless.
